2018 Porsche Macan vs 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Porsche produces lean and nimble vehicles that are both perfect for the track and picking up groceries. Once you drive a Porsche, few will be satisfied driving anything else. The SUV’s are among the most elegant on the roads and hands down the most fun to drive.

Both the 2018 Porsche Macan and Cayenne are built up to legendary Porsche standards. The Porsche Macan offers a slightly smaller crossover SUV with better fuel economy due to its 252hp 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. The turbocharger makes it competitive against the 300hp V6 of the Cayenne. Both require premium fuel to reduce premature detonation in the cylinders. Nonetheless, the premium fuel is generally cleaner and worth its price for the additional detergents.

The Cayenne comes loaded with a Tiptronic S transmission. The Tiptronic is a hybrid manumatic transmission that gives the driver the optional control of a manual transmission without the risks of damaging the drivetrain from driver error. The Macan is competitively geared with a dual-clutch PDK transmission. The PDK is the fastest shifting transmission on the roads today. Unlike the Tiptronic S, it is electronically controlled and does not give the driver the flexibility to practice manual shifting with paddles. However, the PDK never needs clutch replacement and comes equipped with a launch control feature that lets drivers apply the maximum torque to the wheels without spinning out or wearing out the wet clutch packs.

Both come standard with 18-inch aluminum wheels and a near exact body style. The Cayenne is stretched out into something more reminiscent of a German station wagon. The Macan has a bolder and more striking look than its more domesticated Cayenne cousin. Both models come standard with Halogen Lamp Headlights. Howbeit, the upgrade option of LED headlights equipped with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) is a coveted upgrade.

The beauty of the PDLS+ technology is that the headlights are equipped with a camera that continuously adapts the beams to compensate for the gradients of light from oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead of you. The overall data demonstrates that it is easier to see the road, pedestrians, and potential hazards than is possible with ordinary headlights. The LED lights are also easier on the eyes, efficient, and rarely in need of replacement.

Both of these models are equipped with the interior elements that Porsche driver’s love: analog gauges, automatic headlights, parking sensors, collision and blind-spot warning systems, and Infotainment connectivity to integrate SmartPhone applications. Both have AWD, adaptive front seats, a Panoramic Sunroof, and an interior loaded with leather, carbon fiber, and aluminum.

The significant difference between the features boils down to options. The Macan comes in a wider variety of engine applications to make use of that wonderful dual-clutch transmission. The Macan S is equipped with a 3.0L Turbocharged V6 with 340hp. The Macan GTS is fitted with a monster 3.6L V6 producing 360hp, which produces one of the fastest and most agile compact crossover Sport Utility Vehicles on the market. You will pay quite a bit for the optional upgrades on both of these models.

The Porsche Cayenne is nearly identical to the Volkswagen Touareg. Porsche owns twenty percent of Volkswagen stock and vice versa. Both companies were initially started by sons of Ferdinand Porsche. The companies today have worked together to overcome sibling rivalry. However, considering that the Porsche Cayenne is fitted with a less exclusive Volkswagen-style engine, it is probably better to invest in the Macan unless you need more room. The Macan appears to be a more refined design of Porsche fleeing from the Gucci effect of the Cayenne on its image.
