Serving Farmington Hills, MI

Comparing the 2018 Porsche Macan with the 2019 Macan is similar to comparing two great meals from a fabulous chef. Regardless of the outcome, both leave you satisfied and amazed at the skill an expert brings to their craft.

When it comes to performance cars, Porsche treats it like a craft. Like any person or company who masters their craft, Porsche may tweak certain automobile recipes for variety’s sake. However, in the end, both recipes render a product worthy of its name.

2018 saw the Macan carry an impressive lineup full of versions of high horsepower models. The base turbo 2.0-liter inline-four has 252 hp. In the base turbo release for the 2019 model, expect the base turbo horsepower to take a leap to 300 horsepower. Expect a GTS mid-model version as well as the Turbo offered with a Performance engine package.

Although Porsche has yet to confirm their United States Macan model engines, good authority indicates two V-6 engines will find their way to the 2019 Macan: Running with about 350 horsepower, the Macan S model gets a single-turbo 3.0 V-6 engine. Expect an additional 90 horsepower from the 2019 Macan Turbo Model containing a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 engine.

The 2018 and 2019 Macan offer a Sports Chrono Package. A GT sport steering wheel with an embedded sport response button temporarily boosts the powertrain response. Both models offer Porsche’s patented traction management system that places power where it is most needed.

As Porsche’s venture into the compact crossover SUV lane, the Macan is a superbly crafted vehicle no matter what flavor you might prefer. The 2018 Macan has some distinctive exterior features. Its headlights feature a subtle appearance compared to the 2019 model and its sharper shaped lamps. 2018 saw the Macan’s grill slightly smaller than 2019’s version.

Air vents set above the bumper in 2018 stay in place in the 2019 version, but on a larger scale. 2019 changes show large corner air intake vents included in the front bumper which also incorporates turn signals moved from the top to the bumper’s bottom. Light-emitting diode LED headlights comes standard with the 2019 Macan along with quad LED daytime running light strips set in each headlight cluster.

At first glance, the rear looks about the same for the 2018 and 2019 Macan. A closer look reveals taillights set within a three-dimensional LED light strip bar in the 2019 Macan. The 2019 model has expanded dynamic performance 20 and 21-inch wheel size designs. Four new colors include Crayon Gray, Miami Blue, Mamba Green Metallic and Dolomite Silver Metallic.

Interior Features

If you prefer a smaller, 7-inch touchscreen, stick with the 2018 model. If larger screens do not distract you, take a look at the 11-inch full-HD infotainment system in Macan’s 2019 model. A redesign to interior vents accommodates the larger screen. Optional features in 2019 include a heated windshield and an air-enhancing ionizer.

While the 2018 Macan offers excellent interactive technology, 2019 introduces additional connectivity and app features. These include Connect Plus, Traffic Jam Assist and live traffic. A smartphone app called Offroad Precision can record camera feeds during off-road driving.

Privacy-seekers might prefer the lack of the “Here Cloud” connection in Macan’s 2018 model. As of 2019, joining in the Volkswagen swarm-based data-gathering system means your Macan’s “Here Cloud” will send road and traffic data to a central server. Other data may upload as well.
